President, Board of Trustees, Burlingame School District

  • Began four year term in December 2003 and appointed president in 2006
  • Areas of focus:
    • Maintaining the District’s strong financial position
    • Challenging the District to improve upon its already strong educational programs
    • Establishing a language immersion program
    • Serving the needs of special education students
    • Closing the achievement gap
  • Member of a delegation of American educators that spent 10 days in China during the summer of 2006 learning about Chinese culture and language
  • Active supporter of the Burlingame Community for Education Foundation

Co-Chair of Two Successful Burlingame Parcel Tax Campaigns

  • Measure A: Passed in June 2003 with 72% of the vote and generates about $600,000 per year ($76 per parcel)
  • Measure S: Passed in November 2004 with 78% of the vote and generates about $800,000 per year ($104 per parcel)

Burlingame School District, Special Education District Advisory Council (SEDAC)

  • Advocated to create the SEDAC as a school board member; appointed to the SEDAC in October 2006
  • The SEDAC provides advice to the superintendent and school board on special education issues
